Edmunds proved it:

It's probably even better for the RS as it has a lowered suspension compared to the LTZ
I found this link browsing the Sonic owners forum, figured I could get some lulz by posting it here. FWD FTW!

Reminds me of when my uncle street raced an M3 with some 2.0 TDI Golf.

I think Edmunds misses the point here.
Yes, a Sonic going 0.9 mph faster through cones than a more expensive sports car is impressive, but one of the major points of the FR-S, with its Prius tires, is that you can get the car to misbehave at super
low speeds,
meaning you can have fun without worrying about
impending catastrophe.
Frankly, I'd rather drive through the cones in the RWD, very-low-to-the-ground FR-S than the tall boxy Sonic, though I'll admit I like the Sonic very much and realize it's the far more practical vehicle.
I also still find it
hilarious
that the Spark EV has more torque than a 458.

Edmunds is totally right on this - considering all racetracks are made up of cones I'd never buy an FR-S over the Sonic.

Does the RS have a rear torsion beam? Or IRS? On the sonic.

For the same price you could get a Mustang.

Wow I just clicked on the article. They are seriously trolling if they're using a slalom course as a benchmark. Probably the one place FWD is actually suited for...

I love it! FR-S fanbois are already pissed! I wouldn't be too surprised if it was faster to 60 as well. Hell, most family sedans are!

Apparently that was the only benchmark? Edmunds trolling hard.

What point? It's pure numbers. Sonic was faster through the slalom. They didn't say it was more fun, or use it to say the Sonic was a better car, they just said the Sonic did the slalom faster, which would surprise a lot of people.

Nope. Sonic RS is ~$21,000. For a V6 Mustang you could do a lot to a Sonic, including a tune, intake, exhaust, suspension upgrades, new wheels and tires...

FWD would probably do better on an ice course too.

Torsion beam more than likely.

It is Edmunds...expecting fair reporting is a crack dream.
So is this post by the way.
My truck is faster than the BRZ too. Thats where all the advantages end. But hey, IVE GOT POWAAAAA

Conceded - Both are cars that are more about driving enjoyment than flashy numbers.

Agreed, and part of the point of the post. People get hung up on numbers all the time and seem to forget that we buy and drive cars because we enjoy them. Who cares if the Sonic is faster than the FR-S, many people will prefer the FR-S and that's fine, as long as they don't get snobby about it.

Weirdest issue I have run into with the FR-S and BRZ- the steering wheel height adjuster does not go high enough for me. Even at maximum height- my left leg hits the steering wheel every time I let the clutch out. I'm not THAT tall either. I have tested both FR-S and BRZs, and it happens in both. Its super annoying and sadly takes them out the picture for me. I guess I could get the auto version, but not sure if gusta.

I dont trust torsion beams for some reason. But I guess they got it to work somehow. Not saying is the best over all but that is still pretty impressive. Thats what sucks about econo hatches in the US as far as I know a lot of them come with a torsion beam. Which is kinda like a hot hatch with out an LSD you know?
